Tuning the fuel injection system on a 1991 Pontiac Firebird

I recently swapped my 305 out for another 305 motor. When doing this, I had to bore the block .40 over and simply replace everything with factory except the cam. The cam has the following specs: .462 intake, .470 exhaust with a .110 centerline.

I currently reside in Pensacola, Florida and need to see if anyone knows of a local shop who can tune a fuel injected 1991 Pontiac Firebird. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Re: Tuning the fuel injection system on a 1991 Pontiac Firebird

I'm over in PC, not sure if that is too far away or not.. anyway my friend's shop does TPI tunes all the time (I do the mods to the CALMAP to put a socketed AT29C256 or 27SF512 chip in for him). He knows what he is doing but is always swamped with work and can be quite slow to get to your job. I can also tune but I'm pretty swamped with my business (not auto related) at the moment.

It really needs to be driven around with a wide band O2 for a few days to get the tune decent.. or maybe find someone with a load bearing dyno to simulate various conditions. Is it your daily driver or weekend cruiser?

Also are you part of Gulf Coast Third Gens?

It is a daily driver but I wanted it to have better pick up so I put a bigger came in it. I have changed out the MAP sensor and cleaned out the throttle body. The problem I'm getting is only at low RPMs, of course a idle. The car wants to stall out while at idle.

Yeah with that 110 cam it might want to see a slightly higher desired idle speed setting. Also the vacuum is lower and the fuel mapping in that range is probably not happy. Do you have a noticeable lope to the idle or is the cam pretty close to stock duration? As far as full throttle acceleration goes, how did the new cam work out?

Absolutely, the idle needs to increased. I have had many people look at it and most people are saying the vacuum is what is throwing it off. There is a little bit more of a lope than factory but not a signicant lope. Full throttled accelerating is hard to say as the low end is hindered by the computer trying to properly function.

Does anyone know of any good tuning shops in the Pensacola, FL area who can work on a 91 Firebird TBI? I am having a problem finding anyone who can work on it as most places will only work on the newer fuel injected cars.

Would Precision Tune be a bad idea? The manager said they work with modified cars with custom chips.

that 110 lsa and your TBI computer are not going to play nice together.....

and its going to be tough to find someone local that will tune that. Perhaps a mail order chip will get you pointed in the right direction.....

Mail order chip? Where should I begin to look for that? Summit or jegs? Do you think precision tune could figure it out?

found this in a quick google search.....

it won't be as good as one you could do yourself

poke around the TBI board and see who is tuning their own setup.

or just throw a carb on it.....
