Fix it??? I say pull the $%&* out! Less weight and your car will run cooler with no condensor in front of the radiator. PLUS, more room to do plugs and all.

Umm we still live in Arizona...110* in a couple more weeks!

I personally don't know any in your area. There's a decent shop behind Autozone at like 40th and Thunderbird or the one I visit @ 56th and Bell.

Most places will do a decent job, but you should consider switching to 134a for a refrigerant, as r-12 isn't being produced anymore and is getting expensive.

Do you know what is wrong with your system?

it newer really has worked right they have refilled it wit r-12 already and it dident help out any they said it could be tha compressor or it might have been something else. they had told me to convert it to 134a but at that time i dident have tha cash. and now my compressor is making these weird noises when i turn on tha ac, now i got tha money to fix it so im plannin on doing this as soon as i can find a good spot to take it too. i also need to fix tha timing on my car cause well thats another story hehe damn car is causing me many problmes now but ill fix them soon when i stop and im ideling tha rpms drop and go up and drop and go up like if it was starting to die out then comes back up

Idle problem could be your IAC starting to go. A new one is $47 at checker.

You can get a rebuilt compressor from autozone, checker or pepboys. I want to say it was $189. It isn't that hard to change, but the rest of the stuff can be a pain. You are going to need a new accumulator and a new orafice tube (filter) that goes in one of the pipes. Flush the system with clean air and 100% isopropyl alcohol just before you attach the hoses to the compressor and make sure everythings tight.

Once that's done you have to find someone that can properly evacuate the system. It has to be evacuated to 60? bar. (a lot) Once it's evacuated, all you have left to do is let it sit (test for leaks). If there aren't any leaks, add the correct amount of oil and coolant. The oil is basically mineral oil for R-12 systems and the refrigerant (r-12) is about $60 a pound and you'll need about 3 1/2 pounds to fill the system. Of course, so that you don't lose the vacuum on the system adding stuff isn't all that easy. I knew someone here that could do A/C at one point. I did all the wrench work and he did all the rest. Hated to see him go.

I know NOTHING about 134a, except that you can buy it. Do a search here because someone on the board has had experience with it.

GL!
