Re: lt1 swap
Physically a LT1/Auto combo drops right in with no modification at all. The engine and trans mounts are the same.
There is one sticking point, the AC compressor will hit the K-member on the passenger side. it either has to be notched, relocated, or swapped to vette accessories. You can also go with a tubular K-member. Me? I just went with a AC delete pulley and didn't run AC, the rest of my AC system was in disrepair anyways. So I just didn't bother, but I definitely want it back.
The hardest part of the swap will be the wiring. Its messy and confusing for people who aren't used to reading the diagrams. I have done several swaps and there were still points that confused me on my LT1 swap. But most of it was straight forward and is covered in the LTx/LSx swap forums.
I suggest reading them to get an idea of what you are in for.

That all depends on your mechanical ability.

Fuel and throttle lines do concern me.
Re: lt1 swap
There is always a chance depending on how good the tune and the cats are. I got my 1992 to pass with no AIR or EGR but the tune is pretty spot on. They don't look that closely during the visual so you will likely pass on the visual but why not put it in with the emissions equipment? You don't really gain much in terms of power by removing it.
