There is no meaning to either. F-body is an rpo code #. G.M. gives each body type a letter designation, since the various body types are used by many different divisions. The full size rear wheel platform like the old Impala SS was the A-body. Camaro and Firebird are F-bodies. As far as the meaning of Camaro is concerned, Chevy likes to name car models with a name beginning with "C", thus they have used Corvette, Corvair, Corsa,
Chevette, and Camaro. Their may be other models that I've forgotten beginning with the letter "C". Of the names above, only Corvette and Corsa are real words, the rest are made up.
The Corvette was a small, fast, wwII British war ship, and I think Corsa is the name of a town in Italy, but I'm not sure.

Russ, the body designation is not an RPO code (Regular Production Option). It is just the next available letter when creating a new body (chassis) foundation.

Oh and the Impala/Caprice/Bel-Air was a B-body.

Just incase some of you missed it ...

You girlfriend is smart, the bowtie logo was first seen in a bathroom in France. It was a wallpaper pattern. I don't quite remember the story (have to look it up), but when the exec. from Chevrolet was looking for a logo he recalled the pattern (from one of his stays in a hotel room) and used it. The word Camaro (although not a real word) is derived from the french word for Comrade, or companion in english. Contrary to popular belief, it does not mean shrimp in spanish. That would be camaron. Any other Chevy (or Camaro) trivia you'd like to know? I know almost all.
Russ is right about the "C" name thing ... back then.

I read somewhere that Camaro is Comrade in French, well I only think it's close to it. Is Spanish Camarada means buddy. Just thought I would include this. I also know that Camaron means shrimp.. in Spanish but we would not want that to get out too much.
My 2cents as a Spanish speaker.

The info. I have is that "Camaro" is an obscure French word that roughly translates as "friendship".
