Was pretty cool. We had my dads old survey instrument setup out back, and a piece of paper to check it out on. Crudely drawn circles with shaky hands at the 'height' of the eclipse, came up with 73% obscured. Pretty close, eh?

Hey, that's neat. How'd you figure it (curious)? I did the same thing, I used my telescopes to view the eclipse. Use a big white box to reflect off of, then used a big trash can for shade (easier to view). Did you guys see the array of sun spots?

Drew the crest by hand, used a circle template to draw circles as close as I could get (hey, its not rocket science with a hand drawing ) and then I used those circle radiuses to throw into autocad. With autocad as you probably know, areas are simple to calculate.

Didnt see sunspots. They must have been hidden or we didnt have it on a big enough piece of paper

Never though of that, hand drawn circles and autocad. Yeah, A large sheet would have exposed the spots, I used a 12x24 sheet and the sun was 6-8 inches in diameter. Dwayne, interesting that you mention that, I too thought the moon passed over the sun, but it is the sun trying to hide behind the moon. You know needing a break.
