Smogging
How often do you have to smog your car. Is it only when you change ownership of the vehicle or is there a specified time period or WHAT? I want to pull the Q-jet off and through an Edelbrock 600 on w/a vac advance distributor- It should free up some ponies, I really feel like the computer is holding the car back. Even if it's like every 3 years I'm gonna do it.

You have to register a new/used (new to you) car within 10 days I think, and for sure its 30 for an out of state car. This doesnt mean you need a smog, you can do that later but you wont get a sticker or registration until its smogged. Every 2 years we get to have a smog check done. I hear the CHP can look and cite you for emissions that have been tampered with, which would be at any time. Never heard of it happening though.
