Help... What is this thing??

I was washing my engine and heard a bad exhaust leak on my passenge side. Upon just looking things over, i noticed that this thing has become loose. The bolt hoding it to the exhaust manifold has come lose and i have never noticed this thing before. What is it? What does it do? Anything supposed to be attached to the other side of it? TIA

Something to do with the smog pump. Not sure if thats where the muffler is on it, or if thats one of the tubes that is supposed to be connected to somewheres. I can look at mine when I get home.

i think its ur crank case air intake and if ur engine is carbed then it conects to ur airfilter, and is usually held in place by a filter (crank case airfilter) but i dont think u have anything to worry about mine was broken for like a week or two and nothing happened to my car.... but note this is all just spectulation....
