Question for Vsixtoy

I know that you've done extensive mods to your V6 Camaro, and you mentioned at the meeting last night how well it corners. I was wondering where, or I should say under what rules you autocross? If I remember correctly SCCA is very restrictive as to what you can do to a car and keep it in a stock class. I would think that the mods you have done to your car would force it into a prototype class where you would be running against sports racing cars that are classified by engine displacement and weigh at least 1000# less than your car. Or, do you just run for the challenge of seeing how well you can make your car perform, knowing that the cars in class that you compete against have a huge weight advantage?

I only ran this car once 1 1/2 years ago in autoX just after I finished most of the suspension work just to see what it would do. I no longer AutoX regularly- used to 15-10 years ago, it gets boring.

This car would technically I think be illegal for ESP because of the subframe connectors, however, V6's are inferior and would not be placed into the ESP class do to lack of power. I ran ESP on "street tires" just for the hell of it to checkout what it would do. I figured it was fair -11 cars, 10 of them on racing rubber, me not. Most of them with full race alignments, me not. Several of them putting down about 400hp, me 165 at best. My only advantage was a stiffer chassis. I took 5th of 11 and missed 4th by a 2/10 of a sec.

Craig Angel pissed me off my making a smerk comment to me beforehand that my little V6 would get eaten alive in ESP and that I didn't belong there. (We go way back, never liked eachother) So I ran it, did what I did- wasn't in the money and thought screw him (for old time sake and the smerk) and DNW'ed just to **** him off back.

If I ran racing rubber, its positively good for between 3-4 seconds. Power would get me another 3-4 on the course I ran (It was a high HP track with good uphill straight that killed me.)

I just ran it for fun.

ps- the incident that started all this between Angel an I was him wanting me to run the trophy dash car on bald tires, THEN me change them to new ones after I was done- belt was showing- I told him flat out to his face to....well you know. I was early 20's at the time and he didn't care for youngsters.

Russ, I want to add that there is alot more that I could do to this car if I were to want to seriously compete it in autoX- but I don't. I will always be a daily driver for the wife as long as she has her way- and we all know women get their way.
