Shipping Questions
Hey guys, there is a camaro that im interested in getting, i'm in fontana, california and the car is about 1100 miles away. my question is, what is the best way to get it shipped to me? and how much would it cost?
thanks
thanks
Is it driveable? If it is, you need to do some research and ask freight companies. I doubt if anyone here has ever shiped a car, but someone may have. Since freight rates change, anyone who hasn't shipped a car in the past year, probably won't have current information. I've seen used cars/classic cars on transporters on the freeway from time to time. I think whether the car can be driven under it's own power will make a big difference in cost. It is much easier to load a car on a transporter under power than to try to hoist a non runner up. I suspect that the cost on an open car carrier like is used to deliver new cars to dealers is probably cheaper than the enclosed moving van type transporters that are used to haul show cars around the country.

I had the 92 RS I bought from ebay located in AZ car hauled to CA (Rancho Cucamonga) foir $250. A friend of mine that sells cars regularily on ebay says he gets them 'shipped' to anywhere in the lower 48 states for anywhere between $300-800, just depending on the length of the journey.
We had our car, when completely stock, shipped from Florida via a car transporter. Cost was $700 and it got here in two weeks, give or take a day. Best bet, if you can, fly out there and drive it home. If it is driveable, plus you can check it out first hand to help decide if it is worth it.

I had mine shipped here from Ft Worth, so... same place. It was about $800. You can find cheaper places, thats about middle-high but a safer transporter.
Its a long drive, would take most of an entire day one way if you went that route... and you need another ride or a one way plane ticket.

Before you sign a contract or pay a deposit, check out how they rated with other customers:

Some of the companies at the bottom seem to be scam artists, as I recall one was charging $135 cancellation fee. Read the contract before you allow your cc to be charged.
FYI, I see DAS (Dependable Auto Shippers, Carson CA) has had 14 favorable and 8 Unfavorable writeups.

Diesel fuel is more expensive than gas. A truck will get from 2 to 4 mpg. A truck driver will make between $50k to $100k per year. You won't find cheap anywhere in the equation. If you want the car transported, expect to pay the price. If the price plus shipping is too high, buy a car more locally.

Do you want us to call them for you?
Randy said above that his friend gets cars shipped for $300-800. That seems cheap to me. Good luck!
