Help

I just got my freshly rebuilt motor dropped in and running and drove it to the trans shop to have the pressure checked like that told me to well when i got there I popped the hood and there was oil all over the passenger side of the motor the oil dipstick came out about an inch and sprayed the motor with oil what could cause all that pressure it only happened when I drove it on the highway for 40 miles it doesn't do it at a ideal

It could possibly have an oil filter mount without a pressure bypass valve, which would cause the pressure to be really high.

Have you checked your oil pressure? What's it reading when warm and idling? What's it reading while on the highway?

Until the rings seat, you may have some blow by with crankcase pressure that is blowing out the oil. Once the rings seat, you should have a nice crankcase vaccuum if the engine is built right.

I did a compression test yesterday it came out like this.

cylinder 1=175 psi 2=170 psi 3=175 psi 4=165 psi 5=160 psi 6=165 psi 7=165 psi 8=160 psi.

Actually they do in a sense "seat". In effect the cylinder walls will seat to the rings, maybe. Cummins diesels are famous for having difficulty getting the rings to seal because they run chrome moly. I wouldn't do a taredown yet, but if the car continues to use a lot of oil and doesn't leak it, you may need to hone and rering it.

Just as an FYI, there's no such thing as "chrome-moly" piston rings. There are chrome rings and there are moly rings, but no chrome-moly. What you are really referring to is the coating that's on the ring. Piston rings are either cast-iron or steel and can have a chrome or a moly coating.

Since people are used to talking about chrome-moly when it comes to other parts, it's not uncommon that the term gets incorrectly applied to piston rings.
