Those have to be the worst concepts I've seen yet. There's better ones out there though.

Having seen both the new Camaro Concept and the Challenger Concept in person, I'll take the Challenger in a heartbeat. The Camaro looked a bit too cartoonish to me, but this Pontiac Firebird Concept is just plain hideous. Looking at that and the GTO it seems Pontiac is trading their horrid plastic body cladding for some bizarre Star Wars nose treatment. I'll pass.

That article is more about stirring up public interest to A) bring back the Firebird and B) get a GTO the enthusiasts are dreaming of. Not a rebadged Holden. Similar efforts seem to have worked for the Camaro.

It's also an effort to keep the Pontiac brand alive and well. With all the "globalization" going on, there's rumors that Buick and Pontiac could go the way of Oldsmobile.
We know they have people that monitor these and other enthusiast boards, what message do you think it sends to GM if so many keep saying it looks like crap? I think better we try to send a more positive message in hopes they might produce it again.

Maybe they should produce what the public wants so it can survive.
The way that thing looks they won't sell many.

I would love to see the return of the Firebird. Heck, I think it NEEDS to be brought back, but if I see a concept car and I think it looks like stink I'm going to say so. You can't honestly tell me that if it comes back and, in your opinion (yours, not mine) it's hideous, you would still buy it just because it's a Firebird, can you?

I never get too concerned about the concept cars. They are just that, CONCEPTS, mainly to showcase features that might see production and to create a buzz. If there's definite interest in the concept, both good and bad, then it stands a good chance of getting produced.
I've yet to see any production car that was a dead-match for it's concept. Concepts usually have some exaggerations for sheer ooh-ah, wow, or yuck factor. It's the designer's chance to go wild and do some things that aren't necessarily practical for production.
On the GM-Trucks Web site, there was a big buzz over the "concept" 2008 Silverado. Lots of "I like this", "I hate that" and "I'd buy one if" posts.
Then, not long after, GM announces the new 2007 truck line. It looks close to the "spy photos" of the supposed 2008 truck, but only more refined. The 2007 trucks look pretty nice. Nice body lines, all new interior and coilover front suspension finally for the 4WD's. No more torsion bars.
In late 2008, we'll see the new production Camaro. Maybe soon after, we'll see a new Firebird. In the meantime, enjoy the process.

The reason I liked that Firebird concept is because it looks like a modern version of the 2nd gen bird.
Any of you ever own a second gen? I like them a lot and I'd love if Pontiac went with that overall look and shape to compliment the first gen look of the Camaro.
I regret not buying a thirdgen Firebird when it was new and keeping it nice (fourthgens never really did it for me). I plan on doing just that of they ever make a new Firebird.
Much respect for the Camaro, but I'm just a Firebird person, and won't ever buy a new Camaro.
The new Silverados and GMC Sierras are pretty sharp, even though the GMC front end looks like a copy of a Ford Super Duty.

I have never been a firebird guy nor I will I ever be. But I personally love the trans ams from the late 80s. The thirdgen trans ams... Imagine if they made a new modern vertion of a thirdgen based body, trans am. Now that would be sick.
It would be all low and sharp. It could be like Pontiac's corvette or something close. I dunno.... I am just blabbing here.

Tough luck man. I wanted a live axle too, but looks like the furture is catching up with us. IRS isn't as week as it used to be. And price for making it has gone down. The lead decition makers over at chevy all say it will be IRS on the final production model. I don't like it either, but oh well. I am still gonna be first in line when they come out.

Motor Trend had a article about the upcoming GMs.
Any rear platform performance model will most likely be on a holden base.
They make two models and the larger one is a chevy in Sudi, a Buick somewhere else and a Dai Woo in Korea.

Those Pontiac concepts are pretty hideous, and just...wierd. but I hate the new camaro design too so take that how you may.
I wish we would see some hot new car designs, I'm so tired of all the curvy bubbles and deformed 60's classic styling rehashes we've been seeing. I guess that why all my cars are '90 and earlier....

i sorta agree with 88karr but there aren't too many directions to go. the Camaro has been short long and every which way........cant beat classic designs.......never . the interior ive seen should be toned down too much wannabe billit and such ...looks nissan Z ish. no nonsense attitude like the original should be available.......leather , heat , a/c, with black dash small accents but not too importish............diff wheels would be cool......more thought is needed.

well it is just a concept... They inherintly are supposed to have too much bilet and stuff kinda look. There is no way it is gonna be like that in production. But I see what you mean. It def will have some throw back guages, which I love. As for the everything else, I agree, I want a no non-sence interior, make it an option if you have to.
The V6s and can have spruced up interiors if they want. We all know it is the V6 sales that keep these cars afloat.
In short I hope there is a nice list of options that I can choose NOT to get, haha.
