An efficiant 383 with soft driving habits will probably get better mileage than a 6 in a thirdgen...

My Blue Camaro gets as good or better mileage than my wifes newer Lexus on the freeway, but only if I drive it without a bunch of screwing off...

The problem for the V6 is that G.M. put the wrong one in the f-body. The poor little 2.8 has too work to hard to move the car. I suspect that the reason yo are getting such bad fuel economy in your 84 is that it is a carb motor. If you got a newer v8 with tpi, you mileage would improve tremendously. I had a 89 v6, and never got better than 20 mpg, no matter how I drove it. My 350 tpi gets 21-23 on the highway, around town I get 16-18 which is about what I got most of the time in the v6. I think the most economical engine is probably the 305 tpi, but if you are looking for a high mileage daily driver, you need to look at smaller 4 cylinder econoboxes.
