An efficiant 383 with soft driving habits will probably get better mileage than a 6 in a thirdgen...
My Blue Camaro gets as good or better mileage than my wifes newer Lexus on the freeway, but only if I drive it without a bunch of screwing off...

WoW to hear the legendary "dyno don" say that,
sounds so depressing
sounds so depressing The problem for the V6 is that G.M. put the wrong one in the f-body. The poor little 2.8 has too work to hard to move the car. I suspect that the reason yo are getting such bad fuel economy in your 84 is that it is a carb motor. If you got a newer v8 with tpi, you mileage would improve tremendously. I had a 89 v6, and never got better than 20 mpg, no matter how I drove it. My 350 tpi gets 21-23 on the highway, around town I get 16-18 which is about what I got most of the time in the v6. I think the most economical engine is probably the 305 tpi, but if you are looking for a high mileage daily driver, you need to look at smaller 4 cylinder econoboxes.
