Re: flywheel

thanx i just checked with autozone and they want 60 dollars with core. Now only to figure out which engine i have i know its a 350 1 piece rear main seal internally balanced and a t5 tranny. Any idea what car came with this setup so I can order it since autozone only lets u look up parts by make and model? oh and i think its a 168 tooth flywheel that i currently have but not 100% sure i'll count them this weekend when i pull out the flywheel

Re: flywheel

It's 153 tooth factory, but don't tell them 350 as there are none.
The 305 is the same thing.

Re: flywheel

but my engine isn't factory which is why i asked. I know its an 87 350 but the guy i bought it from didn't know what car it came off of. So if i buy a 153 tooth flywheel what do i need to make sure of so that it will bolt on with no problems? just that its for a 1 piece rear main seal and thats it? Does it matter if I order a 153 or 168? The problem I had now was that the starter grinded off some of the teeth on the flywheel so now the starter just spins without engaging the flywheel consistantly but it does engage once in a while and fires right up. its a powermaster high torque starter that works with 153/168 flywheels.

Re: flywheel

It will be a 153 tooth flywheel no matter what. 168 tooth is for big blocks and will not fit inside a T5 bellhousing.

Re: flywheel

If that is the only problem, they can change the starter ring.
It just presses on.
By the way, a lot of those starters cause that problem, get an LT1 starter.

Re: flywheel

well it looked like it grinded some of the teeth of the flywheel off. No teeth are missing it just had metal shavings on it. I'll drop by and pick up an LT1 starter and see if that fixes the problem thanx

Re: flywheel

If the teeth are bad you'll just ruin the new starter.

Re: flywheel

Yes, completely right there were no '86 400's
And...most of the 400's were big cars or trucks.
That's why they had 168's.
