Motor Week: 89 Iroc-Z v. IROC Race Care

From the media section, neat video.

13.9 from a stock 305? I thought 5.7 liter Irocs were running 14.0's?

Am I the only one that's shocked that a bone stock 305 TPI ran a 13.9? My just about full bolt on 91 305 TPI may at best do a 14.3

PMD built a 421 Catalina 2+2 that put down incredible numbers for the time, claimed it was bone stock, so take the numbers from a mfgr's supplied vehicle with a truck load of salt.

Back in 93, I had a friend and I saw it for myself an 89 5speed run 13.9 at 98mph with just an Edelbrock full exhaust system at Pomona. I think the 89 G92 T5 IROC were the fastest IROC's built.

if you look in the media section on the motor trend article they did runs and it showed that 5 liter and 5.7 liter iroc camaros were just about the same in acceleration time. but then again, you cant bore and stroke a 305 to become a 383 like you can with a 350 iroc camaro can you?

Due to the fact that 350's are so common, its cheaper to ditch the 305, buy a 350 an mod it or stroke it. I haven't seen too many stroked 305's and was advised against it with my 305.
