smog help/questions

I live in a county in Ohio where there is no smog requirments, but selling to a guy in Ventura county Cali. My question is i have no smog equipment on my 92 Trans Am vert., but do have the cats still on and the car runs great. Do the check stations in Cali look for the pump specifically? Or just run the mirror under to see if the cats are on? Im sure it would pass the sniffer test as long as they dont look under the hood!

Re: smog help/questions

so it would immediatly fail without the presence of a smog pump on the engine? Hopefully this is not a deal breaker for my potential buyer.

uh no. Try like OVER the $140 mark and THAT'S IF note that's IF you know someone who is willing to do it. Most smog techs wont touch it. If you find one you really lucked out. Hope it wont hurt the sale of the car

Re: smog help/questions

You need to have everything that is required to pass smog, just as if the car came off the lot... everything that GM put on the car needs to be on the car in order for the Smog ***** to look at your car... and if you have aftermarket parts they must carry with it a nice shiny CARB Decal stating that it meets emissions requirements as outlined in Cali's emissions bible... ... let the buyer know of all of this, otherwise there could be trouble for you... buyer might be able to get the smog equipment that is missing at a local wrecking yard... the smog techs go through a checklist that must be checked off prior to the treadmill test...
