Re: post your recent kills or racing updates here
Hey Vince don't kill the thread.
Administrator asked me to keep it civil and clean
You are pretty much saying you let off when my top end was pulling you in.
And the second run you "didn't" go because both me and the stock sunset orange formula pulled away, your excuse you couldn't HEAR the honks
Such a coincidence that you couldnt HEAR z28fast1 having hydraulic issues although he managed to trap a high mph He had his cut out open and You couldn't HEAR that? Nice way to claim a victory lol
What was your best time on a good day?
This is a new thread to change things around
Post your stories about your 3G
Post your updates and plans
Ex. Ditching your current set up with something more aggressive supercharger nitrous turbo

If your ride isn't ready to do battle, don't flap your gums, and call anybody out!
Victory by any other name is a victory...Period!!!!
I Think I will try this next.

Re: post your recent kills or racing updates here
That's more of individual who is highly competitive and can't take a loss.
So many faster cars roam the streets that we'll never run into
What's that first intake running at? I would imagine you would have experimented with that intake years back? Back in the days when I was into my Tpi I missed out on a used unit on eBay for a killer deal I intended to do a stealth ram set up. But that's when the ls1 gained popularity and ruled the tracks and the streets I decided to change my mind they pulled so hard on top end I was a bit disappointed
Runing out of ideas I assume..?

Re: post your recent kills or racing updates here
To do list:
Fast 92/92 Intake
3.55 or 3.73 gears
A/C recharge
Vince you beat me on that pass 12.4@ 109ish to my 13@105mph. After the pass I asked you if you wanted to run for some cash and you said no..."I don't want to get hussled..."
I even told you I would give you the hit for $100 but you declined. I left it at that and respected your decision then proceeded to make one more pass, 12.3@115mph.
Nothing personal, my offer still stands: I'll give you the hit, $100 in a friendly race.
About you loosing to TPI Terr, no need for hostility lets set up a friendly race and get it on film for "bragging rights." I'm sure TPI Terr wants to see what kind of gains he gets with headers instead of the stock exhaust manifolds.

No guts no glory!
After all. you did get beat by a small block chevy, what's the disgrace in that?

mild cam & aluminum heads..
to do list:
new tires
Upgrade my suspension
lower it and a new paint job
and ask santa(soon to be wife) for a 2' cowl hood
Re: post your recent kills or racing updates here
Talking about excuses, I don't want to hear them about your car being a daily driver smog legal car that's been stuck in the 12's for over a decade. Run what you brung!!
As for the the grey GTA, it runs hard and he does the least amount of talking. I don't want to call him out it would make for an interesting race, I would not give him the hit.

Then, when you get beat, you like to make excuses. You chose off Vince, sometimes you only get one chance, make the most of it, he did.

Watch out for Allen, he walks softly and carries a big stick.
I remember back 10+ years ago when my car was still stockish and in the low 14's, a black 99Z28 with a loud-mouth driver called me out and said he would let me leave first and then run me down by half-track. He was still in my rear view mirror when I crossed the finish line. I think his name was Ben and he was in the SCFB.
And I remember Don getting challenged by a '99 or '00 white Trans Am at Fontana. The owner thought it would be cool to race against another white Trans Am. Don beat him 13.10 to 13.30.

I like how you guys ignore so much ... And get others involved as well.
Don there's someone always faster out there And z28fast1 isn't saying he's the fastest car out there don't let this thread turn into a controversy.
Your a business owner you should know that
I'm beginning to think that you only pay attention to Tpi cars
You should get out more often, browse the Internet, YouTube videos
Plenty of nice modern affordable cars out there running low 12 out of the dealer
Its nice to experience new stuff It's also nice to hear peoples stories and plans this is he point of this thread
Valentin that's a nice shot of your car !

Of course we only pay attention to TPI cars. Thats the niche Don and I concentrate on because there really isnt anyone else out there in SoCal who specializes in thirdgens and TPI engines. Thats one of the first rules of business right? Find the customer's need and provide for that need. Yes we're aware of LS1 engines and the power potential they have, but why do you insist we focus on them or pay attention to them? Do you also insist that LS1 mechanics learn how to work on Ford Modular engines or Dodge Hemi engines too? Its like you consider us inferior to you because we dont work on LS1 engines or have LS1 engines under our hoods. Whats up with that?
One last thing, I'd like you to list the "modern affordable cars out there that run low 12" off the dealer's lot. I dont consider $30,000 or more to be affordable, but hey, I'm just a TPI mechanic.

Most of us are a fun loving bunch of gearheads that like doing things together and enjoyig life.
I don't need all the crap that gets thrown around on here and wish it would go away.
Not everybody enjoys TPI like we do but ... well you get the drift,

Some people have the wrong impression, I enjoy my 3rd gen, I enjoy working on it, I enjoy helping others reach their goals working on their 3rd gens.

As for me I'm not one that like to cause trouble
If my statement did say something to cause some trouble I am sorry truly am
You Don know somewhat of a person that I am since you have worked on my car a few times and I appreciate all the work and advice you have gave me...
I don't understand why can't we just get along like it was before some people say that it is hard due to the problems that are going on and it goes farther then I know
As for the TPI set ups I think they are some pretty good set ups and to see how much You (Don) and others in SCTPI have took them beyond their limit has just amaze me... I was planning on going with a TPI set up myself till you told me I could since it would be alittle hard to do it... No problem with me
I have respect to all the thirdgen set ups that are out there
I really don't care what someone gots under the hood we all drive thirdgens (majority of us do) and that's what it is all about the cars...
Also for example I know my friend is going to kill me for says this
We are building a 355 TPI for his car should be a fun little motor once he is down with his motor we are dropping in my motor since it been sitting in the garage for a while

as said, it shouldnt matter what kind of setup you're running, the love should remain intact for the simple fact that we all drive third gens.

I don't need you to tell me what I need to do.
I have been around the racing game more years than you have been born.
I was racing a fullbodied sedan in the 10's back in the 60's
I was piloting an 8 second car in the 70's before they
strapped a pair of huggies on you.
I am the first and the only 355 TPI car putting
400HP & 430TQ to the rear wheels.
If I wanted to do the expenditure and the efforts
I would build a TPI car to make all your LSX stuff look sick.
I might have lost a step or two at my age but someone
else in my car as it stands, would most likely show you a thing or two.
So again, I don't need you to tell me anything.
I was racing the likes of Bill "Grumpy" Jenkins, Ronnie Sox, Dick Landy, Butch Leal and others in Pro Stock from '69-'78.
I have a third gen for fun and that's it, I don't need
to be king of the hill or the fastest car out there.
I hope this make things a little clearer,

Re: post your recent kills or racing updates here
A group of guys was standing around my engine bay yesterday at the Cali Generalz BBQ and the exact topic came up. I asked everyone to turn around and look the other way for a moment and I slammed the hood. I then asked everyone if they would be able to tell me what motor my car had in it a month from now while I was driving down the street. Everyone laughed, why? Because it doesn’t freaking matter!!! I’ve owned rotary powered Datsun 510’s, rotary powered Mazda’s, Toyota pickups with side draft carbs, 240/260 Z’s, V8 powered classic Chevys, Porsches, M BMW’s, AMG Mercs, and 4 3rd gens with every level of performance build there is and raced each and every one!
What is under you hood is your business!
As far as racing goes… I don’t care what you drive or what’s under the hood. You line up and whoever reels in 1320 feet first, wins. Bad 60 foot’s, missed shifts, wrong tires, not tuned, all irrelevant. If you agree to line up, you agree to accept the consequences of winning or losing PERIOD!
Power is nothing without control and control comes with experience. Identical cars, inexperienced driver vs. an experienced drive. Experience will dominate time and time again.
Vince and I had a disagreement on whose car was faster one afternoon at Don’s shop. After talking smack for a few minutes, we excused ourselves, found an empty stretch of road down the street from Don’s shop, lined up, and handled business motor to motor driver to driver. Drove back to Don’s shop and went about out day. I happened to beat him that day just as he had beat me other times we raced. Its FRIENDLY rivalries like this that have kept this group of gear heads moving forward with 3rd gen performance.
I’m all for smack taking and the like but let’s keep it respectful and light. If you get beat don’t get pissed, get motivated. Go back to the drawing board and come out and hurt some feelings next time

Re: post your recent kills or racing updates here
Let's clear the air a little.

Impressive don! See ive never met you or your son to even know what you were up to in the 70s. I personally don't know you or made business's with. Perhaps because people for some unknown reason judge on what's found under the hood of the 3G?

I would like the chance to sit down with you face to face and talk engines. Mike, share with us again the story of when we were on the cruise and the Mustang owner called you out for money. But his girlfriend wouldnt let him race.

Kevin I'm not here to talk about ls1 engines not here to promote ls1 transplants either
It was a new experience not a preference. Its not like I go to meets and diss or show no interest if you dont have a ls1 transplant.
This is a so cal Thirdgen a community representing all third gens
There is a reason you run sctpi it's only Tpi related
Now this is something different this isn't SC tpi

You're right, you are what you said you are "a very impressionable young man" looking to learn. I hope you stick around long enough to accomplish that goal.
Life is not all about LSX engines, it's about having good times, and enjoying those times with others.

Mike, 9 years ago? Holy cow, I thought it was no more than 5 years. Some of those posters are still around, and some moved on as life took them in a different direction.

Crazy isn't it!? People we used to hang out with all the time have slowly disappeared over the years. Most of the people on that thread are still around and we've stayed in touch over the years. Life happens brother... The important part is to leave a lasting impression but make sure its the right impression

Re: post your recent kills or racing updates here
Older gentleman and his son flew by me in a late 70's Z28. I followed them then we finally came to a stop. We took off at the same time and I showed him what a tired 207k mile 3rd gen TBI motor could do. All he saw were fat 315 tires in front of him. He had what sounded like a beefy motor. Asked him for another go around and he respectfully declined.
Still working on the LT1 in my spare time. Just got some aluminum heads for it. Now I have to port them and the manifold, get a cam and supporting valvetrain, headers a tune. Going to do some suspension and rear wheel fitting adjustments and get it ready for Adams eventually. I do plan on swapping in a T5 when I get a good price on a tranny. That's it for now. LT1 PRIDE!

they are MEAN 500+ horsepower mid 12's to high 11's depending on the year. They dont leave very hard but at 100 mph the power starts to come on hard. When my 06 GTO was stock one walked me after 100 like I was standing steel. Now my they are like Mustangs but If your stock expect to lose by alot.

like what mike said, a third gen is a third gen. dosnt matter what motor it has. were all from the same fam bam.
tpi terr
i know why you want to call out vince. it becuz he goes around saying that he beats you and talk trash on ls1. i think next time you guys run ,record it. so we can all see.
Don
your a cool cat but i do respect what you do. when i was doing the motor swap you came down to check it out. that was cool.but i think doing this swap was a night and day diff. i cant wait to start modding it out.
for the kill story
i raced so many cars . i won some and lost some. i lost count already. but that dosnt stop me. just gets me in the mood to work on the motor and start modding out.

Re: post your recent kills or racing updates here
about the friendly rotw curise hwy run..
well there is video.. my buddy in his pewter ws6 was in back of us recorded both runs.
BUT we all now how vince is.. so theres no reason to broadcast it.. he'll come up with some type of excuse.
and as in matter in fact my buddy in his sunset orange formula was involved in both runs.. his car has a voolant intake and just a gmmg exhaust
well he was AHEAD of not just me but vincent as well.
funny how vincent took that other car out of the picture ...

if vincent is up for a another run i will be up for it but this time ill bring out a couple of HD go pros with different angles to determine precise measurements.
you can email me at

screen shot on my phone to know this post existed
