I spoke with the guy at the LA Auto show handing out the free admission passes for Ecology Auto Parts. I told him we'd just been to their yard in Wilmington last Saturday. I asked when new cars are set out, since someone mentioned it happens on Wednesdays. He said they set out an average of 200 cars a day (the total must include all their lots). So there isn't any one particular day that cars are set out at a yard. He also mentioned they have a new service where you can call in to the yard and ask if they have a particular car or model on their lot. They will tell you, for example: "We have a 83 Berlinetta, a 85 Z28, a 88 RS, etc.". They can also tell you how complete the car was and when it was placed out at the yard. This is something they've only recently started doing. It can help you decide if it's worth a trip down to a particular yard or not. I complained that the closest yard to me (Sfe Springs) is very picked over by comparison to the Wilmington yard. He explained that that yard has an average of 5 times the volume on any particular weekend. Bottom line, it's simply luck of the draw what you'll find on any particular day. But your chances are less likely of scoring some good find at the Sfe Springs yard. Next half price day is Saturday January 19th.
