Unless you are going drag racing, stay with the p/s.

If ya really want a rack and can weld, get a 4th gen one. They hook right up to our p/s and have quick ratio's like the good ws6 gear-boxes.

If you are really into cutting weight, research the company that makes the tubular k-member and tubular A-arms. There K-mem can be ordered with mounts for a pinto rack, I would request that they do it for a 4th gen (unless you are not gonna want to go fast in the corners, drag only! Manual racks gear ratio is slow and sloppy for road racing, but good for keeping the car centered on the track)

I should have a conversion kit out to put a 4th gen rack on our cars soon. The steeering shaft is the expensinve part. Remember, never weld up a steering shaft. It has to be sold with pin sets for the u-joints.

Art Morrsion is where I got my mounting brackets, spherical bearings to replace the tie rod ends, and components to make the steering shaft. I got my rack from summit(CHEAPER)

PA Racing makes a Rack & Pinion conversion for the 3rd gen F-Body for around $600. I am looking into this conversion as well. But I want it for Road Racing applications. Comparing between the Rack & Pinion steering on my Mustang SVO to the Power Steering on my RS I think the Rack & Pinion is much better for Road Racing.

You can get the conversion @ www.ThunderRacing.com

Like he said Crazy, their conversion kit is a manual rack a very very bad idea for road racing, specially if you put in a manual transmission, good luck shifting and steering that thing, give PA a call I already did, they will put the mounts for a 4th gen power rack onto the tubular K member and include a bump steer kit, you just have to fabricate the steering shaft.
