89 IROC making a noise on rear passenger brake Help Please...
Hello,
My 89 IROC has been making a awful sounding noise from the rear passenger brake. The cars all disc. I changed the rear rotors and pads maybe two weeks ago. The car had been making the noise before the change and continues to do so. The noise only comes about after stop and go driving.(after things heat up) Its usually when Im finally slowing to a halt like under 5 mph it doesnt do it on quick stops. I know its the back brake because I can use the parking brake to reproduce the noise. I'm not leaking any fluid or loosing any pressure. Everything seems tight. The noise itself is awful like a grinding of somesort but I cant see any traces of anything. The old rotor was fairly chewed up and that was only on that same side. Sounds like the noise echos up the sail panel. I'm fairly stumped on this one and would appreciate any help you guys can give me.
Thanks,
Martin

When you changed the Rotors/ pads, did you notice if anything other than the pads were touching the rotor? How low were the pads when you took them off, I suppose it is possible that when everything expanded (hot) the pads were low enogh that part of the caliper was touching the rotor. Also when you say that the rotor was chewed up, did it have grooves in it or chunks missing or maybe bad warping?
Sorry that I'm not much help, but its hard to diagnose anything without being there to see it

The pads were very low, past the wear guard I hate to say. The rotor was chewed up in a manor of like groves, if you ran a key over it you could see the difference in planes, thats how i figured the rotor/pad change should get rid of the noise but it didnt. The new pads went right into the bracket like they are supposed to, I think the outbound one is riding along the rotor but I think thats how its supposed to work. The wear on the rotor was accross the whole face not like a single grove more like many groves. It was weird though because it was only that rotor chewed up. Any help is appreciated.

I have the same problem only sounds like mine is up front. Godawful sound, I heard dump trucks make similar noises when slowin down. I'm gonna replace my calipers, pads, rotors and lines/hoses (w/braided and steel one's) here soon. I think it's a clogged hose/line myself. My pads and rotors checked out fine by 3 different brake/tire places.

Garett, you say that your right rear was siezed, and started out as squeaking? My RR sqeaks too and I cannot figure out why. It goes away under braking, sounds like a squeaker tab, but my pads are fine. Is this what your problem was? Let me know, maybe that's what the squeaking is and can fix it.
