1LE brake temps

I just finished my front 1LE brakes (big rears were OE), and kept the OE 89 prop valve. I figure before swapping prop valves, let me take some rotor temps with my IR temp gun.

the front rotors are running just about the same temp as the rear rotors. The right rear is running 20 degrees hotter than the left rear, so I must have a sticky rear caliper. But the front/rear split is almost nil. so I'm thinking about leaving the OE prop valve.

I'm running Bendix street pads all around. plain compound, not the fleet pads. So the temp readings are consistant with the same compound.

on a side note, I still can't lock my brakes, not even fron 30 MPH. All new GM 1LE parts up front. fresh fluid castrol LMA. So I'm not happy about that. and I doubt the problem is the prop valve since I have equal braking front to rear.

with the small old front brakes, I was only able to lock my fronts with hawk race pads, never with street pads. so there is still something going on there......

Have you bedded the front pads yet? Read the big 1LE post at the top.

I feel that if you bed the pads the way I did in the post above. You won't have any further problems.

Why do you want to lock your brakes?

I havn't bedded them yet. they are street pads, so you really shouldn't need to bed them. but I will try it.

I want to lock them so I know I could. that is 3rd genners biggest complaint. not able to lock the brakes.

The only time I was able to lock mine. was from 126 MPH to Zero. I stood on the pedal as I usually do. Locked all 4 wheels, and ruined 4 tires. It was a most unpleasant experience.

I have noticed that when my brakes just begin to smoke. I can lock them. But with $600.00 worth of tires on the ground. I don't want to lock then up at all.

no one says you have to lockem and keep them locked.
you should be able to lockem and then modulate them like ABS.

but I can't even do that...........
