Wondering about chassis compatability
Everyone knows that 3rd gen and 4th gen are just about the same car. I was wondering if anyone KNEW just how similar the chassis are between these two. I'm talking about frame spacing, k-member mounting points, shock tower mounting points, etc. It has come to my attention that the aftermarket for the 4th gen is a little larger than the 3rd gen. I'm trying to get a little research done before I go to the bone yard and start buying 4th gen front clips, fenders, and bumpers. Anyway, it's just me thinking out loud.

Let's see the 4th gen's have a short/long arm design front suspension with shocks instead of struts. Their fenders are completely plastic. The raked windshield makes for a decidely different engine bay, so I would assume dissimilar K-frames.
Others who know the 4th gens better could probably add to this. I know you're just thinking out loud, but I felt compelled to reply to this thread.

I asked the guys at BMR and they said no way Jose. I wanted to use their K-member because it was cheaper than the PA one. It would've been cool to replace the struts with the uneven A-arms. I was looking at one in the salvage yard and it looked similar enough to gets the gears turning. It was in a nasty accident. The rocker panel on the drivers side dented the trans tunnel. The dirver's seat was about 3 inches wide. It even broke an axle tube.
Anyway, the BMR guys used better steal and also said that their K-member would stand up to auto cross too. So much for wishful thinking. I guess I'm just going to have to tow the maro down to the one off chassis guy and open up the check book. Wouldn't have to if the car didn't weigh as much as a small dump truck.
