Steering Difficulty Clunking?
Steering Difficulty Clunking?
When I am backing up or driving at ultra slow speeds, (out of a parking spot, driveways..ect) I get a thumping/clunking sound and jolting as if my wheels are rubbing badly or something. This is when the wheels are at thier most extreme angle, (steering wheel is locked in that direction) It could be almost described like I'm running something over. I don't get any symptoms on turning corners or normal driving. Is something in need of replacement up there? I don't have any aftermarket anything suspension wise. Stock 16X8 rims

The first thing I would check would be the upper strut mounts. The the bearing or both could be bad and possably binding making it difficult to turn the tires at lower speeds. At higher speeds you have the force of the road helping to turn the wheels making it less noticable. I've never actually checked mine before but I'm guessing that if you insert an allen wrench in the center you should beable to rotate the shaft freely. Check one against the other and see if there's any difference. You will have to remove the nut in order to visually inspect the bearing.
If this isn't it get under the car and have someone turn the wheels lock to lock and look for any signs of interference or possable steering component damage. place the stands under the a-arms to keep everything close to normal.
