shock showoff

Alright, I need new shocks/struts bad, and I thought I'd get some input from people that have tried a few. I was leaning towards the KYB AGXs but then I found that Bilsteins are only forty more US$. So, I dunno. Tell me what you think.

ps. i got these prices from shox.com (set of 4)
Bilstein's are $419.00
Tokico $279.00
Tokico Illumina $479.00
Koni Reds are $518.00
Koni sports $568.40
KYB AGX set of 4 is $381.00
KYB (GR-2 Gas fronts and Gas-a-just rears) $143.00

if your car is a daily driver, cruiser and you don't autocross (or autocross rarely) then go with KYB's they are cheap and a great shock for the money! slightly better than stock handleing...

If you autocross, roadrace, love to carve corners and have some extra cash then I would go with the Bilsteins. I hear nothing but good things, it seems Koni's, tokico illumina's and bilsteins are top three... I'd go with the cheaper of the three: Bilstein.

good luck either way

This is basically what I have compiled from this board:

Tokico Pros: Adjustable, no wear when setting to higher rate. Lifetime warranty.
Tokico Cons: Some say even the highest setting is too low?

Bilstein Pros: One rate fits all, "cheap"
Bilstein Cons: Not adjustable, Some say its way too rough, others say its only rough when they are cold

Koni Yellow: Double Adjustable, Lifetime warranty?.
Koni Cons: I've read that once you goto a higher rate, it accelerates the wear on the valves, and that if you goto a lower setting it will wear even more.

It looks like a lot of people are leaning towards Bilsteins. Are they decent at the drag strip as well as in the twisties?

I didn't know the Bilsteins were not ajustable, why would they leave that off a high performance shock? I want a shock that can be somewhat forgiving on the street, but then if I want to do some canyon carving I can just turn a ****. The Tokicos and KYBs are most in my price range. But, from what I can gather the Konis are probably the best for that (lifetime warranty too so valve wear wouldn't be a big thing) but damn pricey. In the summit catolog, it says the rear Konis can only be used with 16" wheels, anyone know what thats about?

Hmmm. It looks like I may have missed something here. IN this post: https://www.thirdgen.org/techbb2/sho...ight=Bilstein, "chacane67" writes:

Although Koni's have an adjustment, against popular belief, the adjustment is for wear compensation as stated in their "Why Koni" header on the website (with the exception of the SPA's and the Dual Adjust type).
After re-reading that, it sounds like only the Reds are affected, and the yellows are fine. If that is the case, then I think I would definately purchase the Yellows.

I do want the Koni Yellows, but for a poor Canadian like me, they're like 550 X 1.6 = 880! I think i'll go with the KYBs, they should perform alot better than what I have now.
