Anyone catch the race on speed channel? What do these cars use???
I saw these races on speed channel a little while ago, it had rustang cobras, BMW M coupes, porsche boxters, and 4th gen camaros and firebirds. I was wondering, what all mods do these cars have? The announcers were saying that they were basically street cars, but they let them change some little things like tires. They all had stock wheels I think, so the camaro's had the stock 16x8's. Do they have like just lowering springs and shocks? Or would they have just about everything done, like subframes, strut tower braces, lowering springs, shocks/struts, torque arms, LCA's, LCA brackets, panhard, etc etc? I was just wondering how extreme their mods are, does anyone know? I'm trying to get a general idea of where my car would be compared to theirs...
yeah i see them kinda races on speed, and i watch them sometimes... their like factory cars off the showroom floor and then modifed (safety stuff).. most i think use the stock engine, tranny, and rear..
very fun races to watch..

Depends on what race series it is. Speedvision Challenge cars are pretty much stock, but the cages are welded in , and so on.
one of the big rules you see in 'stock' classes limits how far you can move the suspension mounting points (usually 1 inch) rather than what you make the suspension out of. Most classes also prohibit changing from a flexible suspension bushing to a solid bushing.
Most of your mods would be within the spec of what they're doing, because they all bolt on to the stock chassis mounting fixtures. Extreme mods would be something on the order of a full tube frame, or changing your front suspension to a double A-Arm setup, or your rears to a Winston-Cup style long control arm, or a Corvette IRS.
I'm not sure what race series you are watching, I've been moving around too much in the last few months to bother getting a cable subscription.

Sounds like you were watching SCCA Runoffs coverage from Mid-Ohio. The T2 class has 4th-gen F Bodies (I don't think 1LE, SS or WS6 cars are allowed, though), Cobras, Boxsters and M Coupes. From what I understand, the only things you can change are tires (R compounds), air filter and cat-back exhaust. Nothing internally on the engine except maybe for balancing and blueprinting. Just slap in a roll cage, get some sticky tires, and drive!
World Challenge rules are wayyyy more open. Here are just the rules on 4th gen F Bodies.
