Clunk in the rear end!!

I am new to this, but here it goes, I have a 1991 Z28 with a 5.7TPI. Every time the car hits second gear, I hear a clunk. Also when I drop into first and hammer it, same thing. I have edelbrock LCA's and I put some new KYB shocks in aswell, still does it. It only happens when the rear end drops to get traction. When the tires break loose, it is fine. Could it be the 3" exaust?? Any input would help.:hail:

I have broke that before, but this feel's different. I have 285's in the rear, they could just be too big. Also I have hochkis lowering springs(1"), I have not relocated the lower control arm brackets.
??????????????? Thanks for the help anyway, I will just have to keep looking.

Rear end noise

I have a 86 Z-28 with the 305 LG4, automatic. I have the same noise when I slam it good. On normal acceleration I have no noise, but on hard acceleration I get a popping noise in the rear, but it seems closer to the right side. On an old 66 Galaxy I once had it was loose gears, and an adjustment to the shims fixed it. I really had time to check into mine yet. But if you haven't check all bolts, control arms, ect. That wasn't it in mine. Right now I am rebuilding the front end. The rear end is my next project.

could still be having wheel hop, maybe you might need the relocation brackets, since you did lower the car...

i had a combination of wheel hop and tranny mount, boy that didnt sound good at all on my 88 formula 350. i bought a new rubber mount and lakewood lca's, however my car was not lowered, so i didnt really need the relocation brackets.

Check your mounting points on the rear control arms and panhard bar, sometimes they will loosen and the mounting holes will oblong out. When you put torque to it, it can slam the mounting bolts around in the frame. Also check for broken shock mount or cracks in the frame.

I have been under it and it looks fine, I chnged the shocks, and all the mounts where good, It,s a sound of something knocking when the suspension drops alot. I will have to go over everything again and see what may have came loose.
