Has anyone adapted the explorer type rear brakes to a 10 bolt?

I've got a 10 bolt in my car that I've just put a zexel in along with the 3.42 gears. The change in the car was really nice going from the 3.08 and worn out auburn. I'd like to keep this rear and upgrade the rear brakes to disk. I've read about using 4th gen rear brakes, but around here a 4th gen rear goes for $500 and up. I've found a 92 lincoln continental with the explorer type rear disks with the seperate drum stlye parking brake inside the rotor. I can get the entire rear for $125.

I have the ability to machine new brackets and such, but don't want to spend the $$$ if this swap isn't fairly easy adapt to the 10 bolt rear. Even though I own a machine shop, I don't want a huge amount of work into this if it's not fairly straight forward.

So has anyone done this type of swap before?

Swapping anything is possible if you have the time and money but by the time you're done it could cost more than buying simple bolt on parts.

Don't forget that ford and chev use different bolt pattern rims so there's more conversion required to use ford parts with chev.

When I installed a 9" into my car it was easier to use ford brakes than adapt chev parts to the ford diff. My rims are dual bolt pattern so they bolted right up to the ford axles.

I appreciate you answer my post and I fully understand the concept of what you are saying about anything is possible. But that's not what I asked. I wanted to know if anyone had done this swap before and if they any tips for me on what problems they did or did not encounter. I would rather ask a question to see if anyone has done this before, than try to re invent the wheel.

I'm also aware of the different bolt circles on the ford verses chev axles. Since I own a machine shop and can easily redrill bolt patterns with my machining center in 1/10th time time of other shops using manual equipment, I've probably re-drilled over 1000 drums, rotors, and axles by now.

So I'm just looking to see if this might have been done before to try and save me some headaches.

I believe the 89 up 10 bolt pbr mounting plates are still available from GM fairly cheap, get some used calipers from a 93-97 f body, a set of 91 brake cables, prop valve, and some 3rd gen rotors, also get the carriers with the calipers, im sure you can do the whole setup for around the price of those explorer brakes and keep from rigging stuff that could cause trouble.

I've checked on replacement rotors for this setup and they are $60 each from the zone. Then add pads, and maybe parking brake shoes. That still puts me in them less than I can pick up a set of 4th gen stuff around here. But I agree, is it worth it. If someone has already done this, then I might be able to make a decision off the experiences they had swapping this setup. In the mean time I'll keep looking for the fourth gen stuff.

I may just grab this disk rear for my 55 chevy project, but that's a long term deal and I'm looking to upgrade the camaro now.

What size are the lincoln rotors? I would check the distance from the mounting plate to the axle flange and compare that distance with the 10 bolts. I don't know if those distances would be the same or not. You might also have to bend some new brake hardlines too.
