Popping/clanging noise coming from the rear of my car when turning

I think ive read about people having this problem before but cant find any of the posts. anyway, it ONLY happens when i turn, and mostly i think when i turn left if that makes any difference. my muffler is a little loose but i got a feeling its not that and much worse. its like a popping/clang noise, pretty loud. you can hear it if you were standing on the corner and i passed by and turned, not just from inside the car. im putting the car on a lift monday to do my oil change, is there anything in particulare i could check? it doesnt always happen, im still trying to narrow down when it happens and when it doesnt. it doesnt happen during like curves in a road, im talking about actual turns to get on different streets and such. any ideas?

My car did that after I put on new lower control arms and the bolts were loose. Check that and also make sure all your bushings are still there. If it has a posi track rear end the clutches could be popping to. Hope this helps.

no i don't think an open rear would unless there is major problems.

also what would cause it to happen only on left turns? im not entirely sure its only happening on left turns, but thinking back when i hear it, i think its only left that it pops. i'll drive it around tomorrow and turn both ways to see if it happens during right turns too.

well i found my problem!! the whole right rear suspension components are off, some of the things were just dangling there when i had it up on the lift. hopefully my haynes manual has some pictures so i know what to replace. any of u got diagrams i can look at on the net? i'll probably overhaul the whole rear suspension though, but i need to know what to order. are there kits somewhere that has everything i need?

There's really not very many parts back there; a shock, a spring, a control arm, a sway bar. That's about it. Which one's loose?

well on the left side i had a bushing sort of thing with a rod going into it, on the left side i had the rod and no bushing. the rod was just hanging there not touching anything. i had the wheels off the ground. im really not good at all w/ suspension parts, reading through my haynes now to get some idea.

if just one side is broke the refer to the otehr side for a comparision to put it back togehter, Most likely you have a broken sway bar end link

see that gold rod thing with the blue bushings, mine was just hanging freely when the car was on the lift, wheels off of the ground. what is it and where is the best place to order it? would that be causing the popping noise?

it's a sway bar end link, like bottled guessed. check parts stores, they *should* have or be able to order them. might want to look into new bushings for the whole car while you're at it, so no others go out. Energy Suspension makes a complete set, and I think a couple of other companies also

there are lots of places. add summitracing.com to the banners at the top of every page on these boards, and maybe autozone.com though I don't know if they have online ordering

any parts store should be able to tell you what the right part is. not to mention dealerships, and summit racing
