rear disc brakes

I have a 88 Iroc with disc brakes on both front and rear. Its the standard single piston brakes. My question is there a way to adjust the pressure on my rear brakes when I press the pedal? Because while testing my rear brakes I would put the car in DRIVE and release my brakes, while letting the tires spin I would press my brakes and it would take a while to come to a complete stop. Sometimes the tires would still spin while I'm pressing on the brakes all the way. I already bleed the brakes and the pads are okay. What can I do to improve the rear brakes?

i have an 86 WS6 with the same rearend. i read somewhere but i can't remember where, maybe chilton's manual, that all u have to do is pull the E-brake then release it and it will adjust the rear discs. try that and see if it works, its simple and it might work, never tried it

you can modify the spring that holds the piston in the proportioning valve/master cylinder assembly. search on that, you should find what you need.

Actually, modifying the prop valve is NOT the correct fix.

82-88 rear discs were recalled by GM. The piston doesn't ratchet. This results in the rear pads being far away from the rotor- they should be touching the rotor. That's a good indicator that you haven't had the recall kit put in.

If you have a manual transmission, GM will put the recall kit in for free! Just have them run your VIN.

If you have an automatic, you're stuck... you need to put the recall kit in. Individually, the parts run over $200- the recall kit, with all the parts in it, is $45 from gmpartsdirect.com.

Find the part #, and my "Hell", describing it all, here: https://www.thirdgen.org/techbb2/sho...postid=1192334 But playing with the prop valve is not the same as putting the recall kit in. If you want to play with the prop valve AFTER fixing your brakes the right way, it's up to you.

Try this brake test- Next time you're slowing down and nobody's in front of you, release the brake pedal all the way, and push it down quickly again. The car will probably stop pretty well. When you turn the car off, remove the rear tires, and see how far the pads are from the rotor (using the inspection hole in the top center of the caliper). If the pads aren't grazing the sides of the rotor... if they're about 1/4 inch away from the rotor, you probably need the recall kit.

No problem! Go to http://www.alldata.com , click on the "DIY" link, and look up the recall info for your car. You got the seatbelt recall taken care of too, right? Let us know how it goes! Some people said their dealers told them there was no recall- and they just had to go to another dealer.
