Discount tire is crap
Discount tire is crap
I was trying to do a complete brake job on the roc. I got the parts and every thing. One lug is completly round and the others well i broke a 1/2 inch rachet, 1/2 inch to 3/8 inch adapter and twisted a 1/2 inch extension off. I got one lug off. I have never seen lugs this tight and did not know an impact could produce this kind of torque. I had a 2 foot cheater bar on the rachet and i was bouncing my body weight (220 lbs) on it no luck. Any one know how to take off a rounded lug other than drilling it out? Should i just take the car to discount and tell them that they put the lugs on there and they have to get the lugs off?
They probably put them on w/ a impact wrench, so I'd take them off w/ one if I were you. I would NOT take your car back there, I mean the F'ed it up once why go back again. So...just use a impact wrench, you can even get those electric ones that hook up to your bat. for emergincy use for like 40 bucks.

Most 1/2" impacts can't produce more than 500ft/lbs. How long is your breaker bar? You need something that is at least 24", or if that is not available, find a long pipe you could slide over your existing breaker. Either the lug nut will loosen, or the stud will break. Either way the lug will come off.
If I were you I'd go back to Discount Tire and ask the manager if his techs use torque sticks. If he can't prove to you that every tech has them and uses them, create a huge scene. It's embarassing, but being a technician myself I don't put up with that bull****. You'd be surprised what the manager will do for you...

I am going to discount tomarrow. i am going to make them get the lugs off. The torque tube is ok but i don't know if they used one. I think there might be a problem with The lug contact to the wheel. If there are burs on the lug it could create what i am experiencing. If that does not work i am going to try a little r134a on the wheel and lug. But if discount won't fix it you bet there is going to be a scene and the bbb will be contaced. what if i were to get a flat i would be sol.
