Disc rear questions. Need help.

I bought a friend of mine's 84 Trans Am. It had 4 wheel discs on it. I plan on installing it on my 89 Camaro. Now for the questions.

I go to order some steel braided lines and summit says "85-92 Camaro 4 wheel discs."

These fit my 15" wheels, were 4 wheel discs offered in 84? Or should I check and see what year its out of? He said he thinks its the G92 RPO code. No way to check now, the car is in car heaven. Isn't there a way to check on the axle itself?

82-83 f-bodies used SAE (standard) thread brake fittings

84-92 f-bodies used metric thread brake fittings.

So those 85-92 hoses will work. I swapped an '84 3.73/posi/disc axle into my '86 Firebird two years ago. Be careful of that "posi"- it's really the Eaton gov-lock, and was suceptible to blowing up. Even my v6 toasted the thing. I'm now back on a junkyard axle

Before you do the swap, have you read this https://www.thirdgen.org/techbb2/sho...threadid=78725 message yet?

Thanks for the heads-up.

The brakes were working great when he wrecked the car, he just fishtailed, hit a tree then flipped.

The reason I am swapping that rear end in is because they fit my 15" wheels. The other rear I bought and returned would not.

Also, thanks for letting me know about the diff. blowing. Its running a 2.73, so I dont know how that will affect the life. Worse comes to worse, I'll put a eaton in there.

What was the story behind yours blowing up? What is the "Gov-Lock?"

Did he change the gears from a 3.73? I thought the '84 trans am got the 3.73. Was it a manual trans?

Anyway, a governor in the middle of the gov-lock flies open to engage the spider gears. This results in the spider gears eventually chipping away to nothing- and when you've got missing teeth, "BANG"!

Noticed the bang coming from my rear... did some slow S-turns in a sears parking lot. When I saw the rear left tire "pop out" an inch after the "BANG" noise, I headed for home ASAFP. What made things more complicated was that I had to figure out a way to get home by only making right-hand turns.

If you do a for "gov lock" on all the forums, you'll probably find a ton of messages about 'em.

I would have replied sooner, but my firewall decided to block everything on the internet. UGH..

I only know 3 things about this rear.

They are not the upgraded brakes because they fit my 15"wheels.

Its a 2.73, I checked this myself.

Its Posi.

How can I check and see what carrier this rear is? (2 or 3 series.)
