loose steering

i have an 84 Z28. the faster you go the harder it is to control it over bumps, dips, and banks. it dosn't respond like it should and likes to do what it wants. it also moves back and forth a lot when thereswind. i'm going to replace the control arm bushings soon and maybe the ball joints. what do you think is causing it to do this? could it be the bushings or ball joints?

On a car that's that old the whole front steering assembly is probably just worn out. If you can jack up the car with the suspension loaded, like on ramps or something, get under there and shake the steering components to death. There shouldn't be any movement whatsoever. Whatever moves, replace.
