rs vs. z28 suspension

today, since i was bored i was looking up rpo codes on both cars, and found that the rs had an f41 firm ride and handling code. was this the case on all the rs cars, b/c the z28 had the f41 code as i expected it to.
the rs and z had the same rear spring rpo codes, but different front spring codes. are the sway bars the same? b/c if they are different, i'm going to get the same bars for the rs,

the z really didn't have any perf. options added on, so what are the absolute basic upgrades that a plain-jane z28 has over the rs besides posi, and tpi engine? like are the brakes any better, etc.?

thanks for any help
mike

The rs with 16 inch wheels and z suspension are esentially the same with the exception of the front springs. I believe they also have the same sway bars. The only difference between the rs brakes and the z 28 brakes without g92 is the z28 has aluminum drums compared to the rs' iron drums. Hope that helps.

I have an '88 Iroc and a '91 RS.

The Iroc came stock with BZW/NNL springs, 34mm hollow front and 24mm rear swaybars. It came with the J65 disc/disc brakes.

My RS has the F41 package but all RSs didn't get this code. It has the same springs, BZW/NNL, and did come with the 34mm hollow front bar, but got a 21mm rear bar. As stated, it came with the bigger wheels and tires, the crappy 2.73 open rear, and drum brakes out back. I know you guys say the front springs are different, but the tag's still on the coils.

the z28 doesn't have aluminum drums, its a 2.73 posi.
the rs is a 3.08 open.
i just checked it with a magnet, and it didn't have a code on the rpo sheet for it, this car was basically the lowest level perf. z28, no accessories but t-tops and pow win./locks

so which sway bars would be diff. front or rear, my guess would be the fronts different, but who knows.

im considering parting out the z, so i need to know which parts i can use, that are worth it, if anybody wants parts, let me know, and i'll tell you what i got.

my spring codes are as follows:

z28 rs

fr. 6XT 7XT 6XU 7XU

rr. 8NL 9NL 8NL 9NL

if anyone can shed some light on this, thank you
