Stubframe?

I did a search, didn't see where this has already been covered.

Owned two 1967 Firebirds, and had the appropriate manuals. (CSM and firebird supplement IIRC)

Noticed early on that everyone says subframes, but thats not what the manual called them.

Just curious if Gm changed the manuals later on, or if "subframe" is just a term that stuck, even if it is wrong.

I doubt anyone will try and argue that I'm smoking crack, but if you are thinking of it, analyze the word "subframe" and "stubframe" and tell me which one actually makes sense.

This ones just been bugging me for years, but since I never looked in a newer manual, I have no idea if GM changed what they called it.

The only time I've heard them called stubframes is when they've been welded to an old street rod frame to update the suspension a little.

I know you never hear them CALLED "stubframes", but nonetheless, its what GM called them in the very beginning.

I'm assuming someone is just going to have to look in a newer manual and see what it says. Heresay won't answer this one, since so far, the only correct, documented term is "stubframe".

Not trying to be jerky about it, but if t's supposed to be "stubframe", it would be nice to call it that. Like a ***** (***** meaning someone that thinks neon lights are a performance mod) saying they swapped intakes when they really mean air cleaner.

I've owned both a 67 firebird and a 67 camaro and I know that they are referred to as stubframes. I think the difference may be that the stubframe is removable on the early cars and the subframe is part of the frame that is attached to the unibody, its not a seperate piece. I don't know if this is right or not but I believe so, maybe someone can step in and correct me if I'm wrong.
