Wheres my brake fluid going?
Hello there, I hope all is well.
I had my intermediate pipe replaced by a fellow because it had rotted out pretty bad and disconnected from the cat. When I got it back the brakes felt spungy and the brake light was on. I called him back and asked if anything could have went wrong and said its not likely but to bring it back if I had any problem.
The weekend rolled around and I drove it again and it seemed fine, and I added some brake fluid just to be sure, it was a little low. A drip fell and fell on the manifold and so I got to become familiar with the smell of burned brake fluid, of so I think.
After that, occasionally when I take a hard left a puff of smoke will appear with taht same smell and over a few days my brakes feel spungy again, and just last night the light came back.
Any ideas?
Thanks in advance

I'd be checking to make sure all your bleeder screws are tightened properly and looks for leaks anywhere around your master cylinder, prop valve or drops wherever you park. Also make sure your fill cap is on properly and is fitting properly.

Check the master cylinder where it bolts to the big brake booster on the firewall. My m/c tore the rear seal, and it was leaking brake fluid at the back, against the booster.

Same thing happened to me two weeks ago. Its was from a loose m/c cover. I hit the brakes and then saw a small amount of white smoke escaping from under the hood and got that smell too. FIrst I thought I had just imagined it.....but then opened the hood and sure enough, one of the corners of the m/c cover was loose.
Either clamp it back on good, or get a new one.
