serious steering problem, please help!

Well to make a very long story short. If i go to turn my car to the left very fast the wheel will lock , it basically feels like im losing all power assist but it is only if i turn the wheel fast and it only does it to the left, I can also feel the similar lock moving the wheel back and forth while parked. I tried a few times turning the wheel very hard and it will not do it when turning right. What could be causing this? Im afraid to drive the car because if i need to turn fast im not going to be able to. All help is greatly appreciated.

I kinda remember something similar happening to my car when I used to autocross. It didn't happen again and I never found out why it happened.

Sorry I can't be of more help.

can you hear the steering wheel locking or does it just feel very hard to turn or like it's locked?

No there are no noises, it just gets stuck but you can force through it. The thing is even if i am slightly turning left even the slightest bit and then i jerk the wheel the car will react fine. It also does not matter what position the wheel is in. It does this in any position unless you are already turning somewhat. What does it sound like it could be? thanks

stupid question for you, but have you jacked the vehicle up and laid under the front end to look at all the stearing peaces.........and with someone turning the stearing wheel, perhaps you have something hitting under there.

thats what I would do first.
