different wheel widths

Allright my car is a street car but is going to be set up to also run auto-x and possibly some road race courses. I know the basic rule for raceing is basically put the absolute most amount of rubber on the ground as possible. My question here is because i cant the rims i will hopefully be getting come in 17X8 and 17X10 and i was wondering what effect it would have on my handeling if i went with 10 inch wide out back and 8 inch up front? Am i better off with 8 inch all around? Give me some advice guys and please dont say do this and this because i say its better, if you have facts to support what youre saying it would be much appreciated.

you should always run as much rubber as possible and adjust any ill handling effects with suspension changes. Only rule of thumb I know of is to run the same model tire on all 4 corners. It's no big deal running a smaller front tire on a rear wheel drive car and is usually the way all rear-wheel drive cars go for racing on a course.

Who are you running autox with next year and what tires do you have in mind?

i have to agree....

i had 9.5 front and 10.5 rear and the car handled very well on a flat surface but for common street driving it was sort of a hassle and the width up front kept me from lowering the car as much as i wanted.

i now have 8 in the front and 10 in the rear and it works great.

the tires were 275-295 for the larger rims and the new sizes are 245-285 with a 295 for the strip.
