IROC vs GTA... silly question time
IROC vs GTA... silly question time
I was just wondering if, apart from the softer spring rates for the GTA, there was any difference between the front springs for both cars...
seeing as I have got headers and alloy heads would having a set of GTA rather than IROC springs suit me better as a lowering option for my Z28?
further into the future I might lower the car further (company here offers a lowering service by means of a molten lead bath - they are spring manufactures and so not a bunch of muppets) for which I would probably use the same springs as I now have (namely GTA ones)... any comments

Hi Patrick,
In a word, I don't think it would make any difference whatsoever. If I remember correctly your car is sitting high at the front- how about cutting half a coil? Mine has Alloy heads too and sits fine (not sure what difference headers would make?)
Regards,
Felix

to keep your spring rates matched front/rear. and get the height you desire, you are probably best off going with the ws6 springs, and trimming them a bit to get your desired height. the problem you get into with swaping springs rates, is your car may take on handling charactoristics you do not want.
yeap ZZ42... you are correct... my front bits are sort of waving in the air so to speak... I've managed to lay my hands on some GTA springs (2nd hand) for £20 and so figured it was worth a punt... happy to spend another £40ish to get them heated (via the afore mentioned molten lead bath) and lowered a little more... just seem to recall that the GTA had similar rave reviews on the handling front to the IROC and being as I have a lighter front than standard (aparently headers save a little weight too) a little softer may not be an altogether bad idea
as for handling at the moment it isn't the most stable car I've ever driven, can get downright "interesting"
figure almost anything has to be better than that (front-end lift at 90+ isn't the most comfortable feeling!!!)
will let you all know how it goes... not for a few months yet though probably - will be having a friend do the wor while I watch and assist

Good luck. Can't be bad for a score
(£20)
See you at the Spring Nats perhaps.
Just a note, the IROC feels solid at speeds of 110-120 no worries, it will be down to your springs I'd imagine.
Cheers,
felix
