proportioning valve upgrade
Hello, I am upgrading my 82TA form disk/drum to 4 wheel disk. Is it manitory that i use the 82-83 proportioning valve or can i use a newer 84-88 style valve? I have been told that some of the newer ones have metric threads opposed to the 82-83 which i believe are am. standard threads. And where can i find such valves, GM has discontinued the 82-83 valve. thanks for any input.

The answer depends in part upon which rear disks you are installing. The rotor size for the older rear disks is 10.5", while the newer PBR-based rear disks use a rotor approximately 12" in diameter. Different braking performance for each, different braking bias requirements for best results. I'd recommend forgetting about finding a stock prop valve and use an adjustable one anyway.

Yea, that might be the thing to do. I will be using a set of factory 82 calipers(rebuilt) with 10.5 rotors, so finding the OEM valve would be the easiest fix for me. Otherwise I will have to change some hardlines and fittings at the master.
