Groaning Steering '91 bird

My 91 Bird is groaning really bad when I turn the steering wheel either direction. I am not sure of the steps that I should take now. I checked the power steering fluid level and it was a hair low, but not bad. I topped it off just in case. The groaning has been getting worse and worse over the last couple of months.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

My Vehicle:
1991 Pontiac Firebird
305 V8 TBI, Automatic
157,000 miles

Thanks, Rob

Do you have someone else do your oil change? If yes, then they may have forgotten to grease your front suspension grease fittings maybe. (Should be about 6-7 grease fittings all in the front) May want to check them out such as the ball joint fittings. I have a guy who had the same problem as you but he had a Ford Taurus. He was told that it was his steering pump but I found it to be a crack on his rack and pinion.

Oh yeah! Thanks

I greased the front end today and it is all good now. The groaning is all gone now. I don't know why i didn't think of that. I have greased them in the past, but not for the last 10 months or so....forgot about them. The noise just seemed too serious to be that.

Thanks again!
