Fuel line replacement question.

When I got my IROC, the previous owner had cut a hole through the trunk to get to the fuel pump and cut through the hard lines also. I have a used set of Hard lines for my car now, but theres no way to fit them through the hole he cut, nor can I cut away anymore. Ive read that the rear axle has to be dropped to do this? Is there any shortcuts or cheats I can take without having to drop the entire rear end? ANd what are the thoughts on moving the pump out of the tank and putting an in-line one in? Thanks in advance!

Its really not hard to remove the axel, should take about 30-40 minutes. I don't think there is any other way to drop the gas tank without removing the rear end. Im not sure about the inline.

When I had to take mine out, I just dropped the panhard bar and the exhaust. Rear axle didn't have to come out.
