Transmission: 5spd.
New rims/rubbing?

I just put on my new rims and tires, the rear passenger tire rubs the outer quarter well when I hit a dip in the road such as an intersection. You know how sometimes it swells/humps in the middle, well I think that it might be the spare tire and setup on that side that might be causing this, I 'm going to remove them tomorrow. Anyone have this problem? I'm running 17X9.5 275/40/17 in the rear!

one of two things...most obvious is improper back spacing on the rim and the other is a sign of worn shocks. easiest way to solve your problem beyond replacing the rim and changing suspension is to go with a 265 next time.

When I was running Eibach progressive rate springs (Sportlines) I had the same problem with 275/40/17's in the rear. It would bottom out over big bumps. Now I'm running 275/35/18 and its about an inch lower (Linear rate, 1/2 height) and no rubbing. Those Sportlines are too soft!!

Could also be rear end placement (off-center). Are both of your rear wheels (tires) the same distance from the lip of the quarter panel? If they are different, you might need to get an adjustable panhard bar and center the rear end. This assumes both rear wheels do indeed have the same backspacing.

i agree with him too..


i WANT to run a straight rate spring, thats made at a lower height to drop my car about 2 - 2.5" from where it sits now.
i want a nice firm rate.... so it wont bottom out, and so theres less transfer when cornering/braking.


however, i dont know where to get what i want, and i dont have the money to buy the wrong springs and keep trying until i find the right ones.






in anycase back to the question..

if its only on one side, then i would get a adjustible panhard rod and recenter the rear end.
