And this sucker is torqued down like you wouldn't believe. I've hammmered on quite a few different sockets and tried breaking it loose with a breaker bar, but I can't get anything to grab it good enough. I took it to a local tire shop and there tool for this type of problem wouldn't work for it because I've got it so messed up. I also welded a bolt to it a couple of times and it just twists the darn thing off. I am in the process of drilling out the stud. Has anyone ever done this before and how difficult is it?

 

i'd try to drill the side of the nut and split it. the stud is going to be very hard and the nut much softer. i have some sockets with teeth and flutes in them for rounded off nuts and bolts. doesn't matter the shape of the piece you put them on, sort of like a fit all deal. migth also want to try heat on the nut, or even cold, like some r134a or some of that air in a can, turn the can up side down.

 

i drilled my stud out with a dremel once....... took 2 days haha but it got the damn tire off ......... good luck

Drilling it out with a cobalt bit and cutting oil shouldn't take more than a few minutes.

 

Where can I get a Cobalt bit and how much will it cost? I bought a new set of Wal-Mart style Black and Decker titanium bits just for this, but I don't think they'll last much longer. I already broke one.

 

Any hardware store should have them.
