lifting engine....suggestions

ok, I have tried searching for a while and found lots of information about changing the motor mounts but mostly about getting to the nuts form the back etc. Not much about lifting other than a few people stating they had hoists.

My question is if you don't have a hoist, can you safely jack the engine via block of wood under the oil pan? Can you get enough clearance (to get the mount out) with the exhaust still hooked up?

thanks.

because the motor mounts are part of the chassis.....sorry, perhaps it was a poor choice.

don't jack it up by the oil pan. just go rent a hoist, that way you won't wreck anything. the oil pan is just stamped steel, thin and not ment to hold a load (especialy an entire engine).
