Yokohamas!

When I bought my car, the dipsh-t that owned the car before me had 3 different brands of tires on it! He had 1 Continental and 1 Grand Am (tire, not car) up front, and 2 Yokohamas in the rear. Well my front tires were getting bald, and the driver side one had a leak in it somewhere, so I said "Screw it, time for new tires". The rear Yokohamas were fine, so I decided to move those P215/65R/15s up front, and I ordered some Yokohama P255/60R/15s for the rear. I got them installed and I can't begin to tell you how much of a difference it made! It definately handled better (It was raining too when I left Discount tire), and it gave my car that "Muscle Car" look of the wider tires in the rear. Now I have all the same brand on my car!

215 x .65 = 139.75

255 x 60 = 153

255/50 would have kept the sidewall more equal, but there are not to many options for that size.

Remember the sidewall is not determined by /60, it is determined by the width times the denominator.

I am thinking about doing the same and was wondering what did the 60s cost each?

Welcome to the boards.

The Yokohama Avid S/T in size 255/60/15 are 58 bucks each at tirerack.com

At Summit they are $60.88.

And I am guessing you have those on your stock rims. Do any wider tires fit on the stock rims that you have found or are those the biggest?

Yokohama A520's were the best performing tire I ever owned. Hooked like a drag radial and handled like a track only tire. Amazing!

255s will rub in the front on 16 inch wheels.

As for the rear, you could run 265s if it is an 8 inch wheel.

Stock rims? Har har har! I have Cragar 15 x 7s! Same size though. They fit alright, although I DO notice some rubbing from the front 215s, although they didnt do that before.

I used the Yokohama Avid V4 (245-50/16) all around.

Positives:
- Nice handling on dry (when pretty warm).
- Quiet

Negatives:
- Lousy handling when cold (dry or wet).
- Bad treadlife

Just my 2c.

Later,
Harry

OHH, PS: They suck in the snow. (Yes I drive it in the snow. I have to.)

I used to drive a third gen year round too and snow tires are manditory. I used Nokia Hakepelittas ( spelling? ) 195/65/15 all around and I caould drive through anything with those. I used to comute to North Bay and back every weekend towing my sled most of the time. Worked great until the car rusted out
