all different brake pad types here
ok i dont know a whole lot about brakes especially pads. i am wondering what all types of pads and the differences/advantages/disadvantages for all types are. i think there are 5 different types:
organic
metallic
semi-metallic
carbon-metallic
and ceramic
is this correct and what are the differences in each type???

I'll tell you what I know, from experience. First, stay the hell away from organic pads, they fade really fast, dust like hell and generally fall apart fast like. The problem I have with the metallic (carbon-metallic, and any other semi-metallic pad) is they need bedded in. They are quite scary when they are wet or cold, especially cold, until you get them warm, they just don't do much for you. Once they get warm they freakin' rock, but they are noisy. Also, you should run a performance rotor with metallic pads (you should have performance rotors anyway, but not all do). I shreadded a set of stockers with the Performance Friction Carbon Metallic's I used to have in my car. The ceramic pads (and the carbon-ceramic) are the best compromise for the street I think. They hardly drop any dust at all, they work great wet, dry, cold, hot and they are quiet. They are compatible with stock (read cheap) rotors and they seem to last forever.

well justin they arent really about the same thing. the other one is about trying to find out which pad would be best for me and this is just trying to find out what are the actually different types of pads. since i dont even know what the different types are. i would have lumped it all in one post but its hard enough to get opinions/facts about ONE question.....
thanks for the reply on the other post tho. when i was searching i saw you used those pads just didnt know if you knew the different types either. as i stated i dont even know if the different types are actual pads
for example, after searching some more i dont even know if a metallic pad is a type or if there are only semi metallics and carbon metallics

Organic are quiet and work well when cold but fade rather quickly. Metallic are harder and require more heat, but can make more noise and rotor wear. Every brand has there own deal they add into the mix, like carbon and graphite, all which they claim makes their pad better then their competitors. Check the website of some of the brands you are considering. Most have details and specs on how there different levels of pads work.
