Leaking Prop Valve! Help!

So here's the situation.... I just finished putting all new brake lines in my 89 GTA. I got all the lines hooked up, all the flex hoses, etc... checked everything over and all my fittings looked good and tight... time to add brake fluid and bleed the system. So I added brake fluid and started bleeding the system, when I noticed a leak at the front... the back of the prop valve is leaking fluid... when you press the brake pedal, it seems like its leaking at the back of the valve where that little rubber plug is... when the car is just sitting, it seems to be leaking from the brake line that comes out of the top of the valve at the back (the line for the front drivers side brake). I'm baffled... any suggestions?

You know I just swapped in a 9 bolt and when I put in the new prop valve the brake line that comes out of it an to the passenger side crossthreaded and would not go in all the way. When you think it's all the way in try to wiggle the line and see if it moves.Mine felt like it was in all the way but I could move the line up and down about an 1/8th of an inch.

I was thinking it might be crossthreaded... I don't know, I started the thread by hand and it was in a few turns before I had to start using a wrench to tighten it... I'll be workin on my car tonight hopefully, so I'll see if I can move the line at all... Then do I just tighten it more? What did you do to fix your problem???

Mine went in a few threads too but as soon as I started with the wrench it cross threaded.I had to go buy a new valve from the dealer for 108 bucks.I also had to yank another line off my other car.I tryed tightening it more and it just rounded the head on the line.

Crap... I was afraid I might have to replace the valve.... man, that sucks... well, I guess I'll see if I can tighten the fitting any more. If it tightens up enough not too leak, maybe I'll be ok... if not, I'll be forced to pay for a new valve... and probably replace that line (its the one to the drivers side front brake, so that one's not too bad to replace)

Actually, anyone know if an 88 Firebird V6 prop valve is the same as the one on my 89 GTA???? My 88s just sitting in my yard with no engine... if its the same I could steal it off that car... I'll have to check that out...

Worked on the car last night.... tried tightening the fitting but couldn't... took the fitting out and the thread in the prop valve is completely screwed... looks like I'll need a new one... that sucks!

No one knows if the V6 prop valve is the same? I'm assuming not cause the V6 has rear drums... but does anyone know for sure?

New prop valve it is... $100 Canadian from the dealership... V6 prop valve wasn't compatible since it has rear drums instead of rear discs.

New valve is going on this weekend... hopefully no other problems rear their ugly heads!

I just put mine in on wed. and it went in perfectly.Just wiggle the lines while you're screwing it in by hand as far as you can.I payed 108 for my valve at the dealer.

Put my new prop valve on yesterday, and everything went well. What I did, was I mounted the prop valve, but didn't tighten up the bracket... that allowed me to move the valve around a little while screwing all the fittings in... this made it much easier to get all the lines in properly. The once all the lines were in, tightened up the bracket, tightened up the fittings... and guess what??? No leaks when I bled the brakes! New valve installation was a success!

That's the great thing about being part of a forum like this... with over 30,000 other 3rd gen owners around the world being part of this site, there's usually a good chance someone else has experienced (or in this case, IS experiencing) the same problem...
