rear end shift

i noticed this the other day while taking a corner somewhat fast, it felt like the rear end was shifting. what i have done is new shocks(cheapo koni's), new tires(bridgestone g009 245/50/16), poly track bar mounts, poly swaybar mounts. what causes this and how do i fix it

Hitting the gas hard around a corner will make your rearend slip out in a rwd car...

yeah mine too. i get that same feeling. I have a shift kit and when it shifts it feeles like it hammers hard in the rear. NO its not my tranny mount, that problem was fixed. Maybe its just a common TA problem. But it does feel like whatever holds the rear axle on is letting the axle shift

I noticed the same thing on my '84 Firebird that I sold, but not on the '83 that I have now. My educated guess is the panhard bar.

no way is it the panhrd bar. If your turning and it happenes and you feel it shift side to side then maybe yes, but i have a brand new panhard bar and bushings and still happening

Here's an idea: you lie down under the back of the car, and have a couple friends grab the rear fender wells and pull back and fourth. Then you can see if anything is obviously shifting.

My car used to fish tail really bad when i did a really hard turn, and you could feel the axle shift. I had a shift kit installed in the tranny, and when it shifted the whole rear end shook. I changed the shocks with some new KYB's and it helped a lot. Then i was reading a book on how to tune and modify fbodies, and the guy suggested to either get an aftermarket panhard rod or box the one you have. I went to the junkyard and got a panhard rod from another fbody and took it to a welder. I had the guy put square tubing in the middle valley and put a flat piece of steel to essentially make a box so there were no open places. After i put that on, i noticed a big difference in the way the axle behaved on turns, and how the car launched with the shocks. You might want to check your bushing on the torque arm that connects the tranny to the axle housing as well. I plan on boxing the lower control arms in the rear as well, those can shift too. My dads IROC really doesnt have these problems for some reason.
