Steering Column Question...

Not sure where to post this...

I have a 1984 Trans Am with a Manual transmission. I was wondering if an Auto transmission Steering Column could be swapped in if I can't find one from a Manual Tranny Donor car... Or, how hard is it to rebuild one. Right now, the pnly problem I can see is that the Steering wheel hangs down and out away from the rest of the column, creating a gap which causes the wheel not to lock when the key is not in the cylinder, and it feels like it will come off while I'm driving which wouldn't bee all that fun... The blinker doesn't seem to function as it should and the hazard lights don't work reliably either.

Anyway, I just need to know what can be done.

1. Obviously an apples for apples swap might be the easiest way out, using a column from a Manual vehicle

2. Rebuild my column

3. Adapt an auto column to have the "Release Lever" for the key that a manual column already has...

Any suggestions will be much appreciated.

Thanks!

???? Help...?

Should this one be in the "History/Restoration Board"?
