Anyone running Nitto NT-555RII Rubber?
I am considering making the plunge into 275-40-17 rubber (on 10 spoke Camaro wheels) and was wondering if anyone is running the NT-555RII tires on their ride. These are the stiffer sidewall version of the drag radials - meant for road racing, but have enough treadlife and depth to be run on the street.

I don't have them, as I don't run a wheel size they make one for.
But I'll quote some people from a f-body road racing site I go to.
Hope that helps you a bit. One of these days, I'm going to pick up some 10spoke SS wheels, they will probably get a pair of RII's on them.

I have over 30K miles on Nitto 555RII's and love them on the street. They are awesome in the rain when new, but like any tire get worse when the tread gets thin. They don't like the cold, but stay soft MUCH longer than a Victoracer. The set on the car now are over 2 years old, and will be replaced soon.
I've compared back to back some of the best street tires out there to the RIIs (Pilot Sports, Goodyear Supercars to name just a couple), and the RIIs are way better, and that's when they are cold. Heat them up, and they go to a whole new level.
The only competition tires I'd use for street use are the Nitto 555R/RII or the Toyo RA1. Since Nitto is just another division of Toyo, this kind of makes sense. Both tires have decent street tread life (10K-15K depending on use) and will work just as well as street tires in the wet as long as they have tread. I actually found the RIIs to be a much safer tire on the f-body than a street tire due to the improved grip levels. Also both the Nitto and Toyo have decent street manners (low noise, good ride quality) with the Nitto being slightly better than the Toyo in that area. Finally, cost wise the RII actually costs about the same to run for street use as an ultra high performance street tire. Cost is less, but it wears out quicker, thus balancing the much higher price of ultra high performance street tires that really don't last that much longer (maybe 25-30K miles). I actually had RIIs on the Firehawk for my last set and they lasted a good 15K miles before they hit 1-2/32nds. I then switched to BFG KDWs, but I honestly think I'm going to go back to RIIs when the BFGs wear out.

Thanks for the info, Dewey.
Would you happen to know what the ride is like - the Nitto website mentions a harsher ride, but harsher compared to what? I'm thinking compared to the drag radials, which ride decent.
Do you have the url of the racing site?
Thanks

being a high performance tire, the ride will be harsher than a drag radial, Since I've never driven on them, I can't really give you a tire that it would be comprable to, or compare/contrast it to something else.

I hope they aren't more harsh than the ultra stiff michelin pilots I have on my car now.
