spohn coilovers questions

I had a few questions about the coilovers.

- rear ones already come with shocks. Do front ones have struts with them? Or we still have to buy those?

- if struts are separate, is there a recommended strut to go in combination with rear coilovers?

- If shocks (and possibly struts depending on first answer) already come with the kit, are they modified in any shape. Or if we need replacements, we can go to the store and buy just about any shock/strut that would fit a 3rd gen.

- how much safe ride height adjustability they allow for? are they designed for lowered cars, or stock height?

1 - Nope you would still ahve to buy the struts. The way Steve designed the rear coil over kit was to used a threaded shock body so he didn't have to make special sleeves like for the front.

2 - It depends on what you are going to do with the car. Drag racing I'd go with a Lakewood 90/10 strut, road racing a Koni red or yellow, or whatever you prefer. I'm about to run Koni red's on my IROC.

3 - You "should" be able to use any stock style replacement strut that you would like with the front kit. That doesn't mean there wil be exceptions.

4 - Whatever height you want to run it at. as it is now it is desinged to work with what you get with the kit. Anything outside of that you are on your own.

BTW what is said above is my own opinion not anything that has to deal with Steve at all.

yeah, after I posted, I figured the strut was separate from the picture of the kit (and the lower price) of the fronts.

3) so what about replacement shocks for the rears? Is there such a thing, or will we have to go to you guys and buy a shock specifically modified for these coilovers?

4) need some clarification here. When you order the kit, will it be possible to specify ride height at that time, and then adjust it from there? Or are all the kits the same? If they are the same, there has to be some min/max beyond which you should never go. right?

I'd send e-mail directly to Steve, but I was hoping he would answer here so that others got the info as well.

3- they are off the shelf QA1 shocks. So if ya need new ones you can either buy new ones or have yours sent back to QA1 to have them rebuilt for a fee.

4- The ride height is up to you. thats what the big nut is for on the treaded sleeve. About all you can specify is what spring rate you want. The lowest spring rate I'd go is what Steve recomends is a 275 pound spring. Thats with figuring the front end weighs 1950 pounds (well 1920 thats what my iroc weighs) Anything lower than that, you will more than liikely bottom out the strut on the plates. As for the max err 350 would be the highest unless you have a big block stuff under the hood. Then that could be figured out with ease exactly what you would need for your setup.
